If I work the closing shift at the store, I get all the leftover donuts, muffins and bagels I want. Last night, I went a little crazy and packed up five boxes of donuts, and three muffin boxes. I took home three donut boxes and three muffin boxes. (I gave away two boxes of donuts to the staff at the local bars.)

To be honest, most of the donuts aren’t for me. I took a dozen box of cake donuts because they’re great with coffee, and the rest are for Daniel and Anna.

I worked eight and a half hours today. A pretty good shift if I do say so myself. I work another tomorrow and the next day and the next day and an eleven hour shift the next day.

I have to admit, after not having a job for a while, I am pretty tired after today’s shift, but it also had a lot to do with the fact that it started so early. I go in at five tomorrow morning.

Daniel gets home tomorrow morning! He’s been gone a few days, camping with his parents and siblings and aunts and uncles and cousins. I was supposed to go with them, but I was stuck here because of the new job. It sounds like they’re having a blast, though he insists that it would have been a lot more fun had I gone.

By the way, by camping, I mean they went to the Wisconsin Dells, which apparently means a campground with a couple tents and an RV, and a lot of driving to a water park and putt-putt and such things. Not my style, which is definitely more on the rough side of camping. You’re not camping if there are toilets nearby.

What’s everyone else up to? (Sorry for the boring post.)

than being able to make your own coffee in about five minutes. Except being able to make your own espresso in even less time. I wish I had an espresso machine. Unforunately, these are very expensive.

So I have a new job. I work at a chain coffee and donut store (Dunkin’ Donuts), and luckily, I’m never tempted to eat the donuts, but I almost never don’t want coffee. This is one reason I’m so glad that Daniel brought home a fresh brew machine. (He’s one of those boyfriends who likes to bring home presents all the time. Lucky me!)

I have a job. I’m working at a coffee/pastry/breakfast sandwich chain (Dunkin’ Donuts) for a really, really great $8/hour. I made the mistake of thinking that my art portfolio would be safe if I took it with me and kept it in my bag.

Obviously, I was very, very wrong. Someone spilled some sort of fruity drink into my purse. I had to take everything out and try to get all the smoothie off before it dried. The worst part was that I had to throw away the actual plastic portfolio my drawings were in because I couldn’t get the stuff off of it.

I wasn’t angry at the person who did it, because though he didn’t take responsibility or apologize, he told me about it immediately and I could tell he was both mortified and very sorry that he should ruin something that was important to someone (me).

It’s all right though, I got my bag cleaned out pretty well, and I went out and got a replacement portfolio. The main problem is that the paper I use to draw is mostly stained and wrinkled, and some of the drawings themselves could do with replacing (if such a thing was possible).

Anyone else interested in art?

I’m starting to commission some of my work. It’s exciting.

So sorry for the abrupt and lengthy disappearance. I had to go visit my dad in Florida, and didn’t really have much access (not to mention that there was not really anything to report about). But I’m back!

Since my birthday,

- I’ve become obsessed with Bo Burnham. He cracks me up.

- Holly has come back from Thailand, though I haven’t seen her yet.

- I’ve got a plan to stay in school for next semester.

- I watched 4th of July fireworks with more enthusiasm than I’ve ever showed.

Probably some other stuff I have yet to rethink of.

Mostly, it’ll be a lonely day. Daniel will be at work all day, and probably only Lauren will call. I think my birthday present to myself will be a job. I guess my plan is to be up by nine and out and about by ten.

Daniel says after work he’s taking me to the book store and I can have two new books or the equivalent of $120, plus dinner out wherever I want to go. He’s a great boyfriend, eh? And I’m sure he’ll be relieved when I only spend $30.

I warned him about what’s going on there now, with the administration killing itself off, and the good teachers leaving and the good students staying at home. The place is turning into an academic joke, and a budgetary drain. I love the Academy, but it ruined too many lives. Not that the fault lies with the school itself. Students go for various reasons, leaving their homes at the tender age of 16-ish, and that’s all fine and dandy. For some kids, it’s the break of a lifetime. It’s how they make it to the majors. But in all honesty, it’s how a lot of kids go from the majors to pee wee.

The school is no longer equipped for intelligent kids who want nothing more but to soak up knowledge. It’s equipped for kids who need babysitters and timeouts. It’s a sad place. I had the last good year there. I’m going to miss the classes that nearly made you cry because you couldn’t imagine anything more beautiful, but they don’t exist anymore. The good teachers have left the place as a lost cause, and the chain of graduates coming back to visit their “juniors” has ended because even the students there no longer bond over all the work.

It makes me cry that the most wonderful thing in my life has turned into something that can only be the worst in most people’s. Farewell, dear IASMH. I loved thee deeply.

I just found out that I can potentially be reinstated as soon as this fall semester. I’m almost afraid to even try to make this happen.

That’s really all there is to say about why I’m grumpy today. I’m going to need a long nap

Which apparently came from Brennig first.
